Holy crap! It's real! I can't believe it!

"Is this cat really [news], or only resting?"

Okay, so it's probably true that I should have a daily news source apart from the yahoo headlines that pop up when I check my email. I grant that. I also grant that some days, reporters just need to kick back, drink egg nog, and snuggle up to their religious traditions and family like the rest of us. There is no reason to believe that EVERYDAY is a packed news day. 

But, really? Today, yahoo ran a video of a ginger cat "couch potato" watching the news. The question to you (the fatcat-like consumer) is "is this cat really lazy or only resting?" There's nothing more to the coverage. Yahoo is eerily silent on the issue. 

But anyway, what the hell? How is this something for next to my email and weather? Is this a dream? 

Which leads me to another, slightly more revealing question. Why did I laugh until I nearly barfed? Why the hell is all of this cat internet stuff so damn funny? We all know about lolcats now. Lolcats are, like, household convo material. For a long time, I felt kind of neutral about lolcats. "Whatevs", I thought, "To each his or her own (cat fixation)". Then I started in, and got hooked. Now, nothing does it for me quite like a cat asserting that he/she is "in my hard drive, erasing my files".

What has happened to us? When I started this blog, I triple pinky swore to myself  -try it, it's hard, you only got two pinkies - that I would never ever make it into a pop culture commentary blog. But I gotta make an exception here. I'm no expert, but why is the cat imagery coupled with the strangely plausible imaginary cat syntax so EFFIN' funny? Why do some people find the cat stuff funny and not the dog stuff (that's me)? Does the opposite happen? Impossible. The dog stuff is just dumb, right?

I don't trust dog people.
